The Colour Monster encourages the reader to think about emotions and what it feels like when they become mixed up. The story sees the colour monster sort his emotions into organised groups. This book is great for getting children to think about what colours they think pair with different emotions and why.

When reading this book you could encourage children to think about:

  • If they agree with the colour and emotion pairing in the book

  • If they have ever felt a mix of several feelings at one time

  • How each emotion feels in their body

  • What they can do to be in control of their emotions

The Rabbit Listened is a wonderfully sweet book about the different emotions we might feel when something bad happens. When Taylors tower falls down a range of animals make suggestions about the best way to react. None of the suggestions are quite right. When the rabbit arrives and sits and listen to Taylor, the loss begins to be processed.

The Boy Who Built a Wall tells the story of a boy who builds a protective wall around himself. It gently explains the barriers people can build around themselves to keep themselves safe and how to start taking the wall down.
